The Kallang Roar!
We were invited to watch the preview of “The Kallang Roar” yesterday and how cool was that to be able to watch movie during working hours. Keke.
Lim Kay Siu starred as Uncle Choo, the formidable coach while Leon Quah Hsun Chuen as his father Quah Kim Song (who was one of the legendary soccer players in the movie).
I was pleasantly surprised when I saw one of my ex-classmates (during my days in TP) – Anwar, starring in this movie! He starred as one of the soccer players – a funny “Gelek-King” Dollah Kassim. He was one of the unforgettable characters in the show.
And girls, if you thinking that this movie is just-another-cheesy soccer movie, you are wrong!
The movie is a story on how soccer shaped the national identity and pure patriotism. The director of the movie, Cheng Ding An, told us that the subject on patriotism displayed strongly by “Uncle Choo” in the movie was how the original character was like and also what he was trying to bring across to local Singaporeans and he was not ashamed or embarassed by that!
I have a thing for any movies or performances relating to patriotism. So naturally, I was touched by this movie. There were a few moments during the movie which made me wanna go “boohoo“… I was telling my colleague that I won’t go for this movie basing on the boring title and thoughts that it’s a soccer movie (which is not exactly a subject I’m crazy about… ). Nonetheless, I was glad to be given the chance to watch it and not missed this great screening. Definitely worth watching – I enjoyed the show throughout from starting till the end.
The movie will be released on 21 August! Do catch it and support local films!
