Dumpling Festival

It’s Dumpling Festival (also known as Duan Wu Jie in chinese or Dragon Boat Festival)  again!

Last Saturday, I went to mum’s house with my grandma and my mother-in-law to ‘bao zongzi’ (wrap rice dumplings).  By making our own dumplings, we were able to put in more ingredients. We made these dumplings to give away to relatives and friends.

Morever, the price of dumplings are quite high now - they are selling at $3 - $3.50 each (normal price $1)!.

ingredients

The Ingredients: Mushrooms, ‘Bui Ba’ (Fatty Pork Meat), ‘Hae Bee Hiam’ (Grinded Dried Shrimps), Glutinous Rice + Bamboo Leaves to wrap.

making

It is not easy to wrap a dumpling. There are techniques to wrap it right. The rice kept falling out when I first try. I have to try many many times to keep the rice in place .

finished

See my ‘pathetic’  little dumpling!

I was tired after 2-3 hours of struggling with the dumplings and gave excuses to my mum that I need to go back home to wash clothes and do houseworks (which was kinda true… kekek….)

When we went back to my mum’s place, they have already finished near to 300 dumplings!

Amazing huh?
